FAQ
Do Great Lengths extensions damage your own hair?
The Great Lengths technologies ensure that there is no damage to your own hair, provided that you follow the correct after care program as recommended by your Great Lengths technician and you visit the salon for a monthly maintenance appointment. Your hair will be in the same condition after the extensions are removed as it was before, if not better. A before photo will be taken for you to refer to at any time.
Where does the hair come from?
All Great Lengths hair originates from India. Because of their shared genetic origins, the basic structure of Indian hair is similar to that of European hair. Traditionally, Indian women would cut off their long braid of hair either at their wedding -as a symbol of starting a new life- or to ask a special favour from a deity at a religious temple. Using Indian hair for Great Lengths extensions allows numerous benefits.
- The hair's cuticle is intact - Indian women's hair is typically of an exceptional quality because chemical or heat damage from styling is rare.
- Weaving the hair into a plait ensures that all the hair is aligned in one direction, minimising tangling
- The hair is homogeneous in colour and thickness
How are the extensions connected to your own hair?
It is the bond that distinguishes Great Lengths from all other hair extension techniques. Great Lengths utilises a patented 'protein' bond. This bond is of a similar molecular composition as that of human hair which enables the bond to withstand any conditions that your own hair can withstand. The protein bond is activated by the applicator whilst fitting the extensions to your own hair. The similarities in molecular composition ensure that there is no damage caused to your own hair, unlike other hair extension systems that utilise glues, welding, waxing or knotting techniques that can damage your hair.
How long will the Great Lengths extensions last?
We recommend that three months after the initial installation you visit the salon for a consultation. Further appointments are dependent on the individual and will vary according to ones natural hair growth.
I am losing my hair. Should I use Great Lengths hair extensions?
This would depend on the reason for the hair loss. Great Lengths is ideal for adding volume to naturally thinning hair however, We do not recommend hair extensions for hair loss due to illness. A consultation is the best solution for these clients.
Can I use chemical products on the Great Lengths hair extensions?
Chemical services can be applied by an approved Great Lengths technician only as they are trained to use the correct products and procedures that will maintain the integrity of the protein bond.
Do the extensions pull your hair out?
Great Lengths hair extensions do not add sufficient weight to your own hair to cause the hair to be pulled out.
How do you take the Great Lengths extensions out?
Your technician can easily remove the extensions from your own hair, without causing any damage by using a Great Lengths removal solution. It is recommended that when it is time to remove your extensions, you return to the salon to have them removed. The cost to remove the extensions is £35 per hour, per person.
Can I reuse the extensions?
Great Lengths hair extensions are not reusable due to the destruction of the protein bonds during the removal process.
